Is your dizziness accompanied by these symptoms?

Dizziness can be caused by a lack of sleep, a poor diet, excessive exercise, or a disease such as a head cold or flu.

It can also be caused by something as simple as abruptly rising after lying or sitting for an extended period of time.

Dizziness may be accompanied by the following symptoms:
  • Loss of balance
  • Feeling faint
  • Tunnel vision
  • Light-headedness or heavy-headedness

Seeing a physical therapist is the most effective way to determine what is causing your dizziness. This will assist you in excluding any underlying conditions or factors.

Look Out for These Vertigo Symptoms

An imbalance in the inner ear, also known as the “vestibular system,” is the most common cause of vertigo. By sending signals about your movement to your brain, your vestibular system helps you maintain your balance and center of gravity. If this system is damaged or malfunctioning, the impulses required to keep you balanced are not delivered to your brain.

Vertigo is a natural reaction that occurs when your body’s equilibrium is disrupted. This is difficult to handle because it interferes with your daily routine and way of life. Even when you are sitting, vertigo causes you to feel as if you are “rocking” or “spinning.”

Watch out for the following symptoms:
  • Nausea and vomiting
  • Double vision
  • Sweating
  • Abnormal eye movements
  • Arm and leg weakness
  • Difficulty with vision and speaking
  • Unable to concentrate or stay alert

If these vertigo symptoms sound familiar, it’s time to consult a Gold Canyon, AZ physical therapist. Click here to schedule an appointment with Vitality Physical Therapy & Wellness.

I was checked into the hospital with Acute Vertigo. LET ME TELL YOU! I could not sit, walk or even move without falling over. Within minutes, Michael had my BPPV Vertigo under control and spent soooo much time detailing what was happening to me and what to do if it ever happens again.

– Arlene W.

I highly recommend Vitality PT! Michael and Jennifer Balbarin, are knowledgeable, caring, and very attentive. They work closely with their clients making sure technique is accurate and exercises are specific to individual needs. I was treated for severe vertigo by Michael and was cured that day! I have not had a reoccurrence since, which was 6 months ago.

– K.C.

Michael Balbarin was clearly an expert in identifying and treating what appears to be benign positional vertigo. Michael was patient and thoroughly demonstrated and explained the issues and possibilities to my wife and me as he did various maneuvers.

What is causing my Dizziness and Vertigo?

A variety of factors can contribute to vertigo and balance problems, including:

Benign Paroxysmal Positional Vertigo (BPPV)

Dizziness is frequently caused by BPPV. It occurs when tiny calcium crystals in your ears become dislodged and move to places they should not be. This can result in vertigo (sudden spinning) and inner-ear discomfort, especially when lying down.

Meniere’s Disease

This disease occurs when fluid accumulates in your ear (s). This is characterized by ear “ringing” and brief bouts of extreme dizziness that can last for hours. There is also the possibility of temporary hearing loss.

Stroke

A stroke affects how the entire body moves. You may experience long-lasting vertigo waves if you have recently had a stroke.

Vestibular Neuritis

This is an infection of the inner ear that can cause vertigo.

Migraines

A migraine can cause vertigo and sometimes light or sound sensitivity by affecting the vestibular system. Your vision may also deteriorate.

Do any of these symptoms or conditions sound familiar? If so, you likely have a balance issue. See our Gold Canyon, AZ licensed physical therapist at Vitality Physical Therapy & Wellness for dizziness and vertigo relief!
